Truth is Freedom

The TRUTH of the matter is we all struggle from time to time with being honest, true to God, ourselves, and others.  Why is this so difficult?  So many answers and reasons can be the response to this question but mainly because it is being driven to us in society, not to hurt feelings or offend anyone about anything in this modern day and time.  Truth is always right even though it hurts at times.   Truth brings freedom and healing if we will allow and submit to its authority. Authority is a subject to discuss as well when we speak about truth but let’s talk more about truth for now and we will discuss authority later.

So, what is truth? John 8:32 in the Bible King James Bible(KJV) states, And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.

This passage has always been important to me which resulted in use many times in disciplining my children when they were little and even now.  I must remind myself often about this with so much evil and corruption in our world around us today.  Websters 1828 dictionary gives a definition of truth as follows.

Truth – Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been or shall be, true state of facts or things.  It is also a conformity of words to thought.  Truth is veracity, purity from falsehood, correct opinion, fidelity, constancy, honesty, virtue, exactness and sincerity.

Jesus Christ is called the TRUTH in John 14:5-6 KJV Bible.

Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (KJV Bible). So, to know truth one must know Jesus.

Truth is one of the pieces of the armour of God and we are instructed to put on the whole armour of God in the Bible. Ephesians 6:14 from the KJV Bible tells us to Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.

Truth is important!  We have most likely learned that God is love and now we are reminded that God is the truth as well.  We must speak the truth in love so we and others can grow in Christ (Ephesian 4:15, Bible).

I read a devotion just this morning that spoke about the fact that everyone has burdens but we will never get to the root of the problem or burden and have lasting spiritual victory by watering down the truth to avoid putting human feelings above heart needs (Call to Glory, 2022)  This takes practice, prayer, pondering, and purposing in our heart to do what the word of God tells us to do in truth and love. This will yield progress. We must seek wise council from the word of God, our Pastors and Pastors’ wives, our sunday school teachers and other elders that continue to live their course in life striving to  please our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He is all that matters.  Be wise in the matter of truth and fact, seek wise council and remember wisdom is better than rubies. Practicing the word of God makes progress, not perfect.
